Yes 3) Do you support the elimination of the federal estate tax?
Yes 4) Do you support requiring the federal budget to be balanced each year?
No 5) Do you support using government funds in an effort to stimulate and improve the economy?
I voted against President Obama's so-called stimulus package because I strongly believe it was a waste of taxpayer dollars. That's why I was not surprised when it was revealed that only 12 cents of every dollar spent went to something that could be perceived as stimulative. It succeeded in expanding government bureaucracy--not in creating the private sector jobs needed to pull our country out of this recession.
b) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
c) Do you support increasing the federal minimum wage?
d) Do you support the ability of workers to unionize?
e) Do you support federal funding for job-training programs that retrain displaced workers?
Unknown Position a) Do you support privatizing elements of Social Security?
I support minimal government interference in the private sector.
a) Do you support increasing the amount individuals are permitted to contribute to federal campaigns?

c) Do you support removing all contribution limits on federal campaigns?
d) Should candidates for federal office be encouraged to meet voluntary spending limits?
e) Do you support giving the President the power of the line item veto for items concerning appropriations?
f) Do you support limiting the President's ability to define how legislation is applied through the use of signing statements?
I believe in full and complete disclosure of all contributions.
Yes a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support programs that provide prison inmates with vocational and job-related training and job-placement assistance when released?
Yes c) Do you support programs that provide prison inmates with substance abuse treatment?
No d) Do you support reduced prison sentences for non-violent offenders?
e) Do you support mandatory prison sentences for selling illegal drugs?
f) Other or expanded principles
b) Do you support federal funding for universal pre-K programs?
c) Do you support federal funding for charter schools?
d) Do you support federal funding for K-12 school vouchers?
Yes e) Do you support the federal government providing college students with financial aid?
Unknown Position a) Do you support federal education standards and testing requirements for K-12 students?
Decisions about education largely need to be made at the state and local levels, not in Washington, D.C. As a member of the Appropriations subcommittee overseeing expenditures on education, I will continue to fight for greater state and local control of our youth's education.
b) Do you support international emissions targets aimed at reducing the effects of climate change?
No c) Do you support allowing energy producers to trade carbon credits under a "cap and trade" system?
d) Do you support strengthening fuel efficiency standards on all gasoline and diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles?
Yes e) Do you support domestic oil exploration in federally-protected areas?
f) Do you support federal funding for the development of alternative energy?
Yes g) Do you support the development of nuclear reactors?
No a) Do you support enacting environmental regulations aimed at reducing the effects of climate change?
I am strongly opposed to any form of cap and trade legislation because it would have a devastating effect on Montana's economy. While traditional energy sources remain an integral part of our energy supply, I support the comprehensive use of our vast energy resources. To achieve true energy independence, America needs to pursue an "all-of-the-above" energy plan that includes oil, natural gas, coal, hydro, wind, geothermal, biomass, solar and nuclear energy.
No a) Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
Yes b) Do you believe that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individual citizens to own guns?
Yes c) Do you support allowing individuals to carry concealed guns?
No d) Do you support a ban on assault rifles?
The Second Amendment is clear. It guarantees the individual citizen the right to keep and bear arms. The government should not infringe upon this right of the people in any way.
No a) Do you support a publicly-administered health insurance option?
Yes b) Do you support expanding access to health care through commercial health insurance reform?
Yes c) Should the federal government expand eligibility for tax-free medical savings accounts?
Yes d) Do you support monetary limits on damages that can be collected in malpractice lawsuits?
Yes e) Do you support relaxing regulations on the importation of prescription drugs?
I voted against the government run trillion-dollar health care bill because it failed to adequately address the issue of costs.
No a) Do you support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants?
No b) Do you support decreasing the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country?
Yes c) Do you support establishing English as the official national language?
Yes d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
I do not support amnesty for illegal immigrants. If an illegal immigrant wants to become an American citizen, they need to leave the country and apply on the other side of the border.
Yes a) Do you support United States military action in Afghanistan?
b) Do you support increasing military assistance for Afghanistan?
c) Do you support increasing economic development assistance for Afghanistan?
Yes d) Should the United States continue to strike suspected terrorist targets in Pakistan?
Yes e) Do you support granting aid to countries when it is in the security interests of the United States?
f) Should the United States support the creation of a Palestinian state?
Yes g) Do you support increasing sanctions on Iran if it continues to defy United Nations mandates?
No h) Do you support the withdrawal of United States troops from Iraq?
i) Do you support the United States' involvement in free trade agreements?
First and foremost, we must ensure that our troops in the field are receiving the funding they need to to do their job and return home safely. Having noted that, reports I have seen as a member of the Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee dealing with corruption and misuse of U.S. taxpayer dollars in Afghanistan deeply concern me.
Yes a) Should marriage only be between one man and one woman?
No b) Do you support allowing openly-gay men and women to serve in the United States military?
No c) Do you support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research?
Yes d) Should the federal government end affirmative action programs?
e) Other or expanded principles
Job Creation - It is imperative we jump start the economy. I support eliminating capital gains taxes on investments, removing the death tax and temporarily suspending the payroll tax to get the economy back on track. Fiscal Restraint - Current government spending is unsustainable. I will continue to pursue a Balanced Budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Government Transparency - Crafting massive spending bills behind closed doors in the dead of night is dead wrong. Americans deserve an open and accessible government, which is why I continue to visit each of Montana's 56 counties every congressional term.
